Give it the facts, then fence it in
Asked from memory, an AI guesses. Given the material and told not to go beyond it, it is far more reliable.
- Paste or attach the document, notes or data.
- Add: "Use only the information I give you. If something is missing, write Not supplied."
- Check every number against your source before you use it.
Make it show its working
Even with the material, an AI can mix things up, especially with long documents or lots of numbers.
- Ask it to quote the exact line it used for each fact.
- Give it one job at a time: summarise first, then write.
- For figures, ask it to show the calculation, and check it yourself.
Go to the official source
Don't rely on AI for what the law says. Employment rules differ in Northern Ireland, and they change.
- Check the official guidance: Acas for England, Scotland and Wales, the Labour Relations Agency for Northern Ireland.
- Use AI to draft the letter or email once you know the rule, not to decide the rule.
Open every link
An AI can produce a link or reference that looks real but isn't.
- Ask it to cite only sources it can link to.
- Open every link and find the quoted line yourself.
- If your AI can search the web, switch that on for this kind of question.
